Hey Friends!

We hope you all had a nice Memorial Weekend! A wonderful time to remember all the brave men and women (and their families) who have made the such huge sacrifices for our protection and our freedoms. As well as remembering our loved ones who are already home with our Father in Heaven.

Living a significant distance from our families doesn't always permit us to spend these kind of holidays with them. We love and miss you all!!

Here's what we did this weekend....

We went kayaking on the river for the first time! It was SOOO fun! We left our truck at a park down river and our friends drove us all up, and across the river where we could launch the kayaks. (Don't worry, it's a SLOW moving river) We planned to paddle down river so we wouldn't have to fight the current. Right as we get our kayaks in the water it starts to rain! But it was still pretty warm, and it wasn't raining that bad, so we went ahead anyway.
It was SO beautiful! I wish I had a water proof camera with us, but this pic is the best Trav could get without dunking his iPhone. :) Mason had a blast! He did great for the first hour or so. He kept saying "SPLASH!", "WATER!" and "FISH!" There were a few times I was a little nervous that Mase would end up going into the river head first to try and catch a fish, but no worries, super-dad Trav had it all under control.... and Mason had his life jacket on.

So we had paddled around the edge of the river into all the marshy "jungle" areas; we were all completely soaked from the rain (which never stopped) and we were almost to the point of crossing the river to get to our truck when I hear, "Uh... Er... I think I might have done something stupid ...." Our truck keys got left back in our friend's truck. -- Which means if we cross the river now we have no way to get home.
.......
...... Huh .....
.....
Looks like we are paddling UP river folks! That's right, we had to paddle back the way we came, fighting the current, with the kids in the kayaks.... luckily, we brought snacks!
Now, I know, I said it's a slow moving river. Which is true. But wow, does it give you one heck of an upper-body work out to paddle up river! Poor Trav did most of the work with Mason in his kayak for 9/10ths of the trip. We were ALMOST back to the truck and Mason emphatically decided he wanted to be in Mom's kayak. So we switched mid-river and I took him the rest of the way.
When we finally reached the launch area and we stopped paddling, I couldn't lift my arms! They had ceased to function! I'm a little sore today but it was SO fun! I'm seriously considering using my birthday money to buy a second kayak.

Well friends, that was our 3-day weekend adventure! We hope you all had a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Much Love,

Erin, Travis, & Mason
